Welcome to Kindergarten!!
Kindergarten is a year of fun, academic skills, and socialization. Students will become acquainted with school social skills. Things like learning to stand in line quietly and playing with others appropriately will be learned. Kindergarten is a big year for learning school rules and also the expectations for listening to directions and interacting with peers. Our academic growth will focus mainly on early literacy and beginning math skills. We will be learning to identify and write our letters as well as learning all the letter sounds. We will work on many concepts of print and other areas of early literacy concepts through morning messages, shared writing experiences, shared reading, journals, read alouds, literacy centers, and visiting Mrs. Horner's reading room. In math we will be working with patterns, shapes, colors, number concepts, counting, calendar concepts, money, measurement, and early addition and subtraction. In addition to math and reading, we will also have several science and social studies units. Some of these units include the five senses, the human body, Thanksgiving, transportation, and much much more!
